Classic rooms for the East Coast.

The Philosophy

A house should hold its composure.

There is a kind of room that never raises its voice. Its proportions are settled and its palette is calm. Everything in it has earned its place, and nothing asks to be admired. That is the standard this studio works to, on every project, at every scale.

Janet Zachar designs interiors in the classic East Coast manner: ivory and cream grounds, deep navy where a room wants weight, pale oak underfoot, brass used sparingly and polished well. The work is tailored rather than fashionable. It is meant to look correct the day it is finished, and more correct ten years on.

Selected Work

The Portfolio

A selection of rooms, photographed as they are meant to be lived in. Each project begins with the architecture and ends with the last object on the last shelf.
